In case you missed the memo, #PSL season is here!
During this glorious, short-lived season, we want to drink up all the pumpkin-spiced flavors we can. There’s some really interesting science behind WHY we want all.the.pumpkin.spice, but for most of us, it’s sufficient to say that we just like the flavor.
And, while a latte is a great pick-me-up, sometimes you just want to wind down with something a little stronger. Luckily for you, there are wines full of fall flavors, warm spices, and comforting aromas.
Fiesta Red is our take on a light, sweet, easy-to-drink wine for all season. Bright, zesty Seville Orange is perfectly balanced by tangy red fruit flavors. Garnished with cinnamon sticks and orange slices, this wine is perfect for sipping cool or slightly warmed.
Medium-bodied with moderate tannins, this Merlot delivers spicy red and black fruit flavors and aromas and a lightly-oaked finish.
Light tannins, dark cherry, sweet berry fruit and subtle spice make this elegant medium-bodied wine from Italy’s Piedmont region an easy-drinking crowd-pleaser.
Mulling (it Over)
If none of these strikes your fancy, or it you prefer a warm drink on a chilly evening, mulled wine will be your jam. Mulling spices include all the flavors we associate with fall: cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, cardamom, and allspice.
This recipe from Gimme Some Oven is one of my favorites. Any dry red wine will work in this recipe, though merlot is typically used. Try it with Stag’s Leap or White Sands, available in-store now.
